CBSA agrees to affix reflective tape identifiers to flaps on BSO vests

After discussions with CIU, in particular Brother Mark Weber, Chair of the Occupational Safety and Health Committee and Brother André Beaulieu, member of the CBSA Uniform Committee, the CBSA has agreed to amend its position regarding the reflective tape identifiers.

On December 12, CBSA wrote to its managers indicating “The concerns of officers regarding the decision to permanently affix the tape to vest carriers have been heard and after further review, we will return to the previous approach of having it affixed to flaps of vest carriers. Officers who currently have flaps are expected to have the new reflective tape affixed to these immediately. As for vests already completed, officers have the choice of keeping the tape on or removing it until new flaps are provided to them. Any removed reflective tape should be returned to local management.”

For CIU, this is a step in the right direction. Any outstanding issues regarding the Federal Identify Program will be addressed at upcoming OSH or Uniform Committee meetings. If you have any concerns, please contact Brothers Weber or Beaulieu directly.
