Keeping Canadians Safe By Protecting Our Jobs
What do we want?
- To prevent CBSA from using technology to eliminate positions or put Canadians’ safety at risk.
- To protect our members against the contracting out of work.
- To establish strict rules around the use of student employment.
Why do we need it?
- CBSA is undertaking initiatives to replace officers with machines, particularly at airports, more and more frequently.
- In recent years, CBSA regional managers have been talking about the possibility of contracting out escort work performed by Inland Enforcement Officers.
- The inappropriate use of student workers has been a problem at several CBSA work locations.
Why are we fighting for it?
- Our members are the first line of defence at our borders.
- We deserve a contract that respects the professionalism of front line officers at CBSA and the services we provide.
- Protecting our work is in the best interest of keeping Canadians safe.
