The CBSA has begun ordering CIU representatives to remove their “Rep” identifiers.
When ordered to do so, please have your representatives ask for the order in writing and submit a grievance using the wording below.
“I grieve the order by management to remove my CIU union rep identification. This order constitutes discrimination, violating Article 19 of the collective agreement and interferes with my right to associate under section 2 of the Charter of Rights.”
Corrective Action
“That CBSA rescind its order to remove the CIU Rep identification and allow CIU representatives to wear the identification immediately; that the employer cease this discriminatory practice and take measures to redress the practice or to prevent the same or a similar practice from occurring in the future; that I be compensated for my employer’s willful and reckless engagement in this discriminatory practice; that I be compensated for the damage to my self-dignity; that I be made whole; and any other recourse deemed reasonable in the circumstances”.
