PSAC young workers craft vision for the future

Eight young workers from across the country participated in PSAC’s first National Young Worker Committee meeting in Ottawa on January 10 and 11, 2015. They spent time creating a three-year plan of action – focusing on ways to make young workers a more prominent and vocal part of the Alliance.

Sister Lauren Baert, CIU National Youth Representative (third from the right), was one of the participants: “It’s amazing to see how much we can all flourish as leaders when we sit down and collaborate. To say that our meeting was encouraging and empowering doesn’t even do it justice. We are the future of this union and we must band together.”

CBSA agrees to affix reflective tape identifiers to flaps on BSO vests

After discussions with CIU, in particular Brother Mark Weber, Chair of the Occupational Safety and Health Committee and Brother André Beaulieu, member of the CBSA Uniform Committee, the CBSA has agreed to amend its position regarding the reflective tape identifiers.

On December 12, CBSA wrote to its managers indicating “The concerns of officers regarding the decision to permanently affix the tape to vest carriers have been heard and after further review, we will return to the previous approach of having it affixed to flaps of vest carriers. Officers who currently have flaps are expected to have the new reflective tape affixed to these immediately. As for vests already completed, officers have the choice of keeping the tape on or removing it until new flaps are provided to them. Any removed reflective tape should be returned to local management.”

For CIU, this is a step in the right direction. Any outstanding issues regarding the Federal Identify Program will be addressed at upcoming OSH or Uniform Committee meetings. If you have any concerns, please contact Brothers Weber or Beaulieu directly.
