Grievance language

The following grievance language is provided to help local union representatives assist their members in filling grievances. Members who wish to file a grievance should always talk to a union representative or to their Branch President.

Grievance

I grieve that on (insert date) the employer ordered me to (include the details of the order. For instance, I was ordered to remove the item or place it out of public view. If the order is in writing, quote the specifics of what management told the grievor to do). The employer’s actions are a violation of article 19 of the collective agreement which protects me from discrimination on the basis of activity in my union. My right to display support for my union is further protected by the Canadian Human Rights Act, the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms, and jurisprudence from the Federal Public Sector Labour Relations and Employment Board.

Remedy

That the employer cease to order the removal, concealment or destruction of materials which display my support for my union and bargaining team. That I be awarded any and all other remedies, including compensatory damages, for the employer willfully interfering with my participation in the legitimate and protected business of the union. That I be made whole.
