New Agreement is Now in Effect

Today we signed our new agreement with Treasury Board. As a result the tentative agreement ratified in mid-December is now in effect.

Convention Call – CIU’s 17th National Convention

The 2014 National Convention of the Customs and Immigration Union will be held October 3, 4, and 5, 2014 at the Ottawa Marriott Hotel, 100 Kent Street, Ottawa, Ontario, K1P 5R7.

Confirmed date for the signing of the FB agreement

This week, our PSAC Negotiator received final confirmation from Treasury Board that the signing of the FB agreement will take place on March 17th at 11:00 a.m., in Ottawa.

PA, TC and EB groups served notice to bargain by Treasury Board

One week after the election of PSAC’s Treasury Board bargaining teams, the union was served with a notice to bargain for the PA, TC and EB bargaining units.

Grievance on First Aid Allowance

The Customs and Immigration Union (CIU) recommends that members grieve the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) decision to limit the payment of the National Joint Council (NJC) First Aid Allowance. CIU is advocating that members who meet the eligibility criteria grieve.

Presentation of the FB agreement to cabinet postponed

Our negotiator was contacted by Treasury Board on Friday and was notified that there has been an unforeseeable change of date with respect to the presenting of our agreement to cabinet.

CIU officers from across Canada gear up for next contract fight

Officers from every CIU branch across the country met in Ottawa last week at the PSAC National Bargaining Conference to prepare for the coming round of negotiations.

Parties scheduled to meet February 12th, 2014

The ratification process for our new FB agreement with Treasury Board wrapped up in mid-December. Immediately afterwards, our negotiator contacted Treasury Board and proposed January dates for the official signing of the contract. We received a response from Treasury Board this week.

Bargaining Committee; Conference; Team election

The CIU Collective Bargaining Committee (Ron Moran, Chair, and members Brea Lewis, Doug Tremblett and Dave VanHelvert) will be meeting in Ottawa on February 4, 5 and 6, 2014 to sort through, group and prioritize the FB demands that will have been submitted by January 30th for next round of negotiations.

FB members ratify new agreement with Treasury Board

The ballots have been counted and a majority of members of the Border Services (FB) group have voted in favor of the tentative agreement with Treasury Board.
