Security workers at the Bank of Canada — members of PSAC-DCL 71250 — have been on strike since June 23.
Throughout the strike, the Bank of Canada has chosen to flout the Canada Labour Code by using Garda scabs to replace striking workers, prompting PSAC to file an unfair labour complaint, with the Canada Industrial Relations Board (CIRB) ultimately ruling against the employer in one of the first significant applications of Canada’s federal anti-scab legislation.
This week, the Bank of Canada has once again been found to have broken the law by continuing to hire scabs, this time from the notorious anti-union security company Pinkerton.

As the Bank of Canada continues to show blatant disregard for the labour rights of its employees and for federal law, the Customs and Immigration Union invites all its members to support the striking workers. Why are workers striking?
The biggest obstacle to an agreement is the Bank’s attempt to remove scheduling rights language from the collective agreement and add new language granting the employer the ability to change a member’s shift, location, and working hours with only 24hrs notice.
In total, 49 workers are on strike — 42 workers in Ottawa and 7 in Montreal.
