On the last day of the 21st National Convention, delegates continued working on Convention business, and elected the 2026-2029 CIU National Executive, Human Rights Representative, Young Worker Representative, the new Women’s Representative, and Alternates:

An important new equity position
Of particular note, as part of main convention business, delegates voted in favour of resolution 224, calling for the creation of a national CIU Women’s Representative position. The new Representative will be part of the CIU NBoD to advance women’s leadership and represent women’s issues within CIU governance. This important equity position reflects similar changes made in 2024 at the Branch level with the creation if a Vice-President, Status of Women position in each branch. Together, these changes significantly improve women’s representation across our union.
Following another election round to fill this new position, we are proud to introduce CIU’s first ever national Women’s Representative: Danielle Getzie. Also elected were 1st alternate Kendy Michaloski and 2nd alternate Bonita Shapter. Congratulations!
